Made Not Born
Made Not Born is an Art-to-Wear collection by Bronwyn Seier. The 5 looks that comprise the collection feature a pale palette emboldened by colourful embroidery with thought-provoking messages about fashion production. This collection essentially answers the question, “How does my clothing come to be?”. As a result, the collection makes the case for sustainable consumption through its politically charged garments that showcase both the beautiful and exploitative natures of fashion production. The construction of these garments employs traditional and couture techniques, including hand embroidery and engineered silhouettes. Considering the subject matter of the collection, sourcing responsible textiles was a critical step in design development. Rather than commit to a specific path towards sustainable design, various textile features were incorporated, from dead stock material to fair trade farming. Made Not Born is the product of considered craftsmanship that sends a message: clothing does not appear by magic.
