The Many Muses
“The Many Muses” is an upcoming S/S18 collection under the textile-focused label Fauve. The collection will serve as an ode to three different muses of beloved male painters: Jeanne Hébuterne, Fränzi Fehrmann, and Rosa Rolanda. Often revisiting my thoughts during my own creative process over the years, the collection seeks to honour the overlooked creativity of these three particular women--all of whom have been solely understood as muses, when in reality they were spectacular painters and artists too. It is my intention to explore their inner worlds through my textile, sartorial practices and to give thanks to their undervalued work as artists. Ultimately, it is precisely their secret work that has aided in fuelling my own cycle of creativity all along.
Falling under the niche category of textile-focused contemporary womenswear, Fauve primarily produces art-based ready-to-wear frocks, tops, and bags inspired by the Fauvist painting period. “The Many Muses” collection in particular will showcase the distinctive characteristics and strengths of the brand such as the use of bold colour, digitally printed/hand-rendered fabrics, and experimental embroidered elements.
