FORAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
The work displayed features experimental textile art. The goal of the project is the playful reuse of excess materials. This project used new radical stain, dye, and ink-making methods. The whole of the work is made of reclaimed materials sourced locally. The inks and stains were made from found ingredients and home recipes. All fabrics were dyed or redyed using natural pigments from plants growing in Toronto and surrounding regions. All plants were responsibly foraged. The wood was stained using homemade walnut stain. The stamps used in the project are varied and made from wood, linoleum, rubber, cork, foam, and metal. Both hand and machine methods were used. This project aims to show the possibilities of reclaimed and foraged materials and new methodology.
