In my room
Beginning in the early morning, a young woman gets ready for her day. As she playfully tries on more and more clothing, daylight runs out—the spontaneous dress-up game transitions into nightwear as she continues to make her own fun.
Throughout all of Nuala O’Sullivan’s work, the common thread is an emphasis on narrative storytelling. Whether that be art direction, styling, illustration, or design, her process stems from a perspective of empathy. Who are these people? How do they live? What is important to them? These questions are universally important when trying to costume a character or design a garment. Nuala sees the world through stories and dreamed of being an illustrator as a child. She has always been artistic, and drawing was something that she could do to help bring stories to life. Through her studies, she has learned the power fashion has as a tool for communication. Nuala is now working in the film and fashion photography industries so that she can illustrate stories in a new way.
