Stacey Roeterink

For my capstone project I am researching how music from our adolescence shapes us into the people we are today. I will be looking at this through autoethnography and a lens of nostalgia. This research will be presented through a 3 look collection. Each look is based on a song that embodies a piece of nostalgia from my childhood. The looks will be hand beaded using eyepins, rings and delicate seed beads. They will also feature draped fabrics. Each colour, fabric and shape will be picked based on feelings of nostalgia and memories from my childhood.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Stacey Roeterink

I consider myself a multidisciplinary artist and designer who focuses mostly on autoethnic design. I design through storytelling with intuitive draping allowing storytelling to help me create thoughtful construction. I am heavily influenced by vintage silhouettes and mid-century modern design. In my work I value sustainability as well as quality. I mostly source my fabric second hand or deadstock to try and minimize my environmental impact. I am also trying to incorporate more zero waste draping techniques into my work. Quality and thoughtfulness play a big role in my design and construction processes. I want the wearer of my garment or adornment to feel as though the piece was made especially for them.
