My theme is based around reversing the male gaze, specifically in film. In action movies like Charlie’s Angels, all of the costuming prioritizes sex appeal over utility. For my collection, I have decided to reverse this by creating over-sexualized, unrealistic men’s formalwear. The design details I will include are revealing suits and jackets paired with harnesses. I want the collection to mock patriarchal Ideas, while still remaining fashionable. The suit is a classic piece in men’s fashion history, as it has helped men feel powerful and confident in society. However, younger generations have strayed away from the suit as it resembles oppression, orthodoxy and misogyny. In movies like The Matrix and Inception, the villains are dressed in suits, reflecting the controlling, toxic nature of the corporate world. The suit has many negative connotations. As younger generations move away from the suit, their wardrobes have become less professional; my goal is to create a collection that offers a professional look while still feeling youthful and soft.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Logan Griffiths

Logan Griffiths is a menswear designer whose work reimagines the suit as a site of vulnerability, intimacy, and queer expression. Currently studying fashion design at Toronto Metropolitan University, Logan combines traditional tailoring with leatherwork, hardware, and hand-dyed textiles to blur the boundary between formalwear and erotic dress. Their practice challenges conventional ideas of masculinity by reversing the male gaze and presenting the male body as soft, exposed, and emotionally expressive rather than powerful or dominant.

Through bold colour, sculptural silhouettes, and intimate detailing, Logan’s garments explore the tension between structure and sensuality. Inspired by club culture, film, and queer theory, their work invites wearers to see tailoring not as a symbol of authority, but as a medium for self-expression, authenticity, and vulnerability.
