VIELED STRENGTH

Gaelle Chan Tam Chan

Veiled Strength is a contemporary exploration of femininity—one that embraces both softness and power. Rooted in Western tailoring and subtly infused with Chinese-inspired design elements, the collection reflects a dialogue between structure and fluidity, tradition and modernity. Through the interplay of sheer and opaque layers, each piece reveals and conceals in equal measure, framing vulnerability not as weakness, but as a deliberate and empowering choice. Transparency becomes a language of confidence—an invitation to be seen on one’s own terms. Designed for the multifaceted life of the modern metropolitan woman, “Veiled Strength” celebrates individuality, allure, and self-expression. The garments are intentionally versatile, allowing the wearer to style them freely across occasions—from a night out to a fashion event, or even the beach—adapting seamlessly to her lifestyle. The color palette of olive green, beige, and black reinforces this narrative, evoking a sense of understated strength and quiet confidence. With a foundation in simple construction, the collection introduces an edge of sensuality through the use of materials such as organza and leather. These contrasts create a refined tension: lightness against strength, delicacy against boldness.

Ultimately, “Veiled Strength” honors a woman’s autonomy—her power to reveal her body, her identity, and her story as she chooses.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Gaelle Chan Tam Chan

Gaelle Chan Tam Chan is a graduating fashion design student at Toronto Metropolitan University, based in Toronto. Born and raised in Mauritius, her multicultural background continues to shape her creative perspective. Her practice focuses on garment construction, with an emphasis on structure, fit, and refined silhouettes rather than conventional design. Drawing from her Chinese heritage, French upbringing, and extensive travels, her work reflects a balance of cultural influence and technical craftsmanship. She loves creating pieces that are simple yet intriguing, often incorporating unexpected fabrics into classic silhouettes. Gaelle designs  with the intention of empowering women—creating pieces that inspire confidence and individuality.

Most recently, Gaelle won the Mio Musa draping contest organized by Mionetto. During her studies, she also had the opportunity to sell her work for Brandhand at the INLAND pop-up in collaboration with TMU in 2023 and participated in One-of-A-Kind last spring.

My long-term goal is to establish my own clothing brand, MAISON GAELLE.
