ponyplay is about control, autonomy, and parallels. my practice explores intimacies between personal and societal desire for control and how that control impacts notions of domestication. my collection reflects today’s fascination with medieval torture, the notion of pain as divination, and the spectacle of female suffering. the material use, often associated with protection and discipline, are reworked into forms that express strength, sensuality, and metamorphosis. ponyplay explores control through the parallels seen between the treatment of women and the treatment of animals in a male-centric system in which men view women as creatures in pursuit of taming and dominating.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

A light-skinned person with dark, tight curly hair and light eyebrows looks directly at the viewer over their left shoulder. They wear a long-sleeved white top and a dramatic, multi-toned gray and lavender feathered shrug that covers their shoulders and upper back. A dark green garment is visible underneath.
