Unveiling the Silent Radiance

Prishni Rawoteea

Unveiling the Silent Radiance features five eveningwear looks that explore the duality of visibility and invisibility. It examines how fashion constructs and reinforces ideals of femininity through culturally shaped perceptions of beauty. Rooted in themes of transformation, empowerment, and identity, the collection questions how beauty is defined, perceived, and valued.

Drawing from my Mauritian Hindu heritage, I was inspired by the symbolic contrast between the peacock and the peahen. The peacock is associated with purity, prosperity, and divinity; it embodies visibility through its vibrant plumage and eye-shaped ocelli, symbolizing recognition and spectacle. These characteristics are translated into delicate textiles, luminous surfaces, and intricate embellishments, including hand-beaded designs and realistic painting.

In contrast, the peahen represents subtle elegance, resilience, and quiet strength. Its muted tones reflect a form of beauty that is often overlooked, yet deeply significant. This interplay forms the foundation of the collection, highlighting the tension between spectacle and restraint and demonstrating the balance between visibility and the quiet power that sustains it.

Through this lens, the collection questions who is seen, celebrated, or remembered, ultimately revealing the power within understated presence.
