I have never (always) known

ZANETA

I Have Never (Always) Known is a project of self love, discovery and surreality. My Imagery surrounds the absurdity and beauty of life using silhouette, and emotion to challenge an existing relationship of what is deemed bad and good. The intention to flip the script on what is natural in the world while acknowledging the absurd human body; how beautiful they are inside and out, and that they will and have always been here. The markers of human presence tie into physical nature and dreamlike depictions of intersectional identities. The Nonbinary black womanhood experience is the forefront of the imagery. Like many of my other works, this will be a communication of intersectional resilience in the form of absurd joy. “At the limits of the self: we find all others” – Kelly Fristch.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

ZANETA

Consisting of styling, creative direction, occasional modelling, and photography, majority of my work explores the concept of self. Topics such as race gender and sexuality are important to how I create and think about the world around me. I try to express the plethora of thoughts in my head in creative ways, because words can’t always translate. As a black nonbinary artist, finding myself also means others are seen when I create.
