“Breaking Down Costuming” is a love letter to the art of costume breakdown, aging, and destruction as a storytelling device. This project is informed by my deep passion for unique costume storytelling and historical fashion research, and deepened by exploring the relationship myself and other costume artists have with the process of creation. I invite you to view the work, which showcases the creative process of costume design and breakdown paired with interviews from costume professionals, and interspersed with the visual representation of my own original script and costume design. I hope this project will help you view costuming not only as a visual element, but as integral to visual media and creating personal connection to historical stories.
