“Abya Yala” is a view of the Latin American identity through a magical realism lens. This genre is based on the idea that people live with magic and fantasy all around them and that it is just a normal/ common part of their everyday lives. The collection takes inspiration from Latin myths and legends as well as certain magical realism works because of their emphasis on culture, social politics, religion and history embedded into them. They are a reflection on our beliefs and traditions in society, what matters enough for it to be told for generations, what has served as cautionary tales, what has been influenced by colonialism and religion, what we had before the conquests and how all that translates into the Latin American person of today.
