Les Punks Incroyables

Les Punks Incroyables is a comparative investigation into the similarities between Punk fashion and the fashion of les incroyables et les merveilleuses, a group of aristocratic youth that emerged during/after the French Revolution. Through a mix of academic writing, photo collages, and images, I hope to develop a comprehensive understanding of youth subcultures and how they utilize dress as a method of political activism. My work draws heavily from sociological theory, material culture, and dress history, producing an interdisciplinary framework that researches dress through numerous perspectives. I hope that this writing may arouse questions about your own dress practices and how we can enable our wardrobes as a vehicle for conversation.
