My work explores the intersection of personal evolution and environmental renewal, using fashion as a medium to reflect cycles of growth, loss, and reconnection. My capstone collection, Catharsis, delves into themes of eco-anxiety and resilience, beginning with constricted silhouettes that symbolize trauma and societal constraints and evolving into fluid, layered forms that embody healing and renewal. Each piece represents a circular journey, mirroring the fragmented and reconnected state of both the self and the world.
My approach focuses on sustainability and emotional expression through design. I repurpose discarded textiles, using hand-painting and fabric manipulation to add layers of meaning to each piece. These techniques symbolize personal transformation and environmental renewal, with the evolving silhouettes representing the journey from constraint to freedom.
As the child of environmental academics and land protectors, my perspective is shaped by Indigenous teachings and a commitment to sustainable practices. My work integrates cultural narratives with ecological awareness, offering a commentary on the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. By blending artistry and functionality, I aim to create garments that are both reflective and transformative, fostering conversations around healing, sustainability, and the cycles that define our lives.
