Abjectify Me

My inspiration for this collection was abject bodies and my views on body through my ED recovery. I wanted to challenge the concept of the naked body versus natural body, specifically towards female bodies. The female body, or rather the naked body, has been a sexual symbol while, being naked means to expose your most natural form.

Ironically, the things that make the body a natural body are considered flaws; while femininity/sensuality are heavily emphasized using the naked feminine body, society still shames women for the “flaws” that come from our natural body, including menstrual cycles, body fats/folds, spider veins, scars, stretch marks etc. I found the contradiction of these ideologies inspirational where it goes beyond body image but contextualizes the physical/naked body to itself.

It can be easily said and done to promote body positivity and we have seen it become “trendy” however, the difference in my collection is that I don’t want to focus on fat versus skinny because it shouldn’t matter. It revolves around specific elements surrounding the natural body and criticizes the way our femininity as women is sexualized by the same bodies that are also deemed flawed, gross, unacceptable, or rather anatomical.
