Magpie

Magpie by Lilunghok is a collection that explores the meaning of objects in the act of collecting. Inspired by lanterns, which shine on their own but can get lost in a crowd, this collection looks at how items lose their value as they accumulate. Several garments feature black hole cutouts, representing trinkets that initially feel special but fade as a collection starts to grow. As the collection progresses, more holes appear and that sense of novelty fades as the viewer grows accustomed to the black hole. This transformation speaks to how over-collecting can strip away the meaning of what we hold dear. Magpie invites a reflection on how the drive to accumulate can sometimes overshadow the very things we once cherished.

Initial line up illustration done in the summer.
Moodboard, inspiration of lanterns, black dots, coraline, and other silhouettes.
Process photo of my logo, lilunghok, as a stamp for labels. The label was laser cut.
Final garments for my first look. The top turned out different from the initial sketch but I liked the curved hem and decided to keep it.
Process photo for my first look shirt garment of all the pieces pinned together. This garment has the most pieces.
Process photo of the final look. The knit top was to tight, so this was taken before I cut it up and remade the top.
