Vīṭu (Home)

Vīṭu (Home) is a print publication featuring various creative approaches (including portraiture, illustrations and still-life photography), and demonstrating the constantly evolving nature of home. Specifically for immigrants within the South Asian diaspora, home is a much more complex concept and can be defined more accurately through material objects. Artifacts offer a tangible link to the past, where you can touch and handle things that belonged to those before you. Think about all the hands that have held your favourite mug passed down by your grandmother, or all the people who have cuddled up next to their loved ones under the crocheted blanket you drape over yourself every night. Objects are often passed down and rehomed throughout their lives similar to settlement processes within the South Asian diaspora. This book captures the nuanced experiences of the individuals within the diasporic community through a material culture lens.
