ToyCrystal Majesty

Eliana Mastrogiacomo

ToyCrystal Majesty is an Autumn Winter 2027 imaginative womenswear collection. It was inspired by several lifelong meaningful interests of mine. Having grown up figure skating, the silhouettes and materials worn in both practice & competition were a central source of inspiration. Storybook archetypes and doll-fashion were equally influential subjects, as my goal was for each garment to revolve around my Obsession wyth un-reality while remaining practically wearable. An integral aspect of this collection was the transformation of athletic-style garments into decorative, tailored pieces. I used materials like stretch textiles (which were fused and treated as wovens) as well as power mesh, to act as a subtle nod to skating attire without being too forthright. Cohesion across all five looks was created by choosing recurring fabrics & notions such as: silk Dupioni, velvet, trims, sequins, glittering tulle, rhinestones, various cottons, and ribbons. These delicate, Girlish materials beautifully reflect doll-fashion’s influence on me as a designer. The collection is tied together by repeated design elements like: pleats, gathers, pointed sleeve hems, button tabs, and cape-like hoods. Such features are intended to evoke a playful-Mysticotherworldly essence. Lastly, the collection’s colour palette functions as a gradient — beginning bright, melting into ice-blue, and ending darkly. Not only does it correspond to the collection’s wintery themes, this progression is also a hidden symbol of non-dual polarity.

Look One

Oneiro Jacket | Sprite Minishorts | Icedancer Tights

This look consists of a skating practice outfit inspired silhouette, wyth a hooded jacket and minishorts worn over bedazzled tights. The ‘Oneiro’ jacket was made from a fused quilt knit, which is actually mattress fabric; I found its dreamlikeness to be quite fitting. The silver trim I added to it reminded me of classic princess costumes, giving it a theatrical air.

Look Two

Elf Princess Blouse | Frostbitten Skirt

The second look alludes to a traditional figureskating costume silhouette featuring a tailored blouse wyth flowing sleeves alongside a knee-length gathered skirt. Sheer fabric wyth embroidered swirls & sequins placed over pale-blue glitter-tulle is reminiscent of the delicate etchings figure skaters leave on the ice.

Look Three

Birdcage Dress

Designed while [internally] playing the song In The Birdcage Part 1 by Lalleshwari (Katie Jane Garside) on repeat, the ‘Birdcage’ dress encapsulates the song’s eerie musicbox sound. Throughout the design process, I envisioned a runaway princess exploring the abandoned ruins of a carnival at night. The ice-princess theme carries on through the crisscross bodice, puff sleeves, and pleated hem.

Look Four

Treasurebox Jacket | Neophyte Miniskirt

The jacket and miniskirt pairing of this outfit was a reference to practice jackets being worn over skating dresses during the warm-up before a competition. The colour scheme in particular was inspired by Sofia Akateva’s 2022 free program costume — mostly black wyth a bright blue ‘glow’ at the hem of the skirt. This catgirlish look is equal parts sophisticated & cutesy. An accessory of this look is a pair of boot covers which, while commonly worn by skaters, are rendered here in a more ornamental fashion.

Look Five

Circe Jacket | Darkmoon Long Sleeve | Pleiades Skirt

‘ToyCrystal Majesty’ concludes wyth the most dramatic look of the five. All black wyth glints of rainbow sparkle, the ‘Circe’ jacket and ‘Pleiades’ skirt both exude the magick of star mythos. The romantic underbust & mermaid silhouettes in dark tones are the perfect fit for an enchanted sorceress.
