Oscar's Foreplay by Mirabelle Zhou

The idea for this collection came from the gender inequality I have experienced in life. During my studies in Fashion and Theatre, I learned the term “male gaze” and how this connects to the gender inequality in life. The collection explored the different aspects of gaze and how that will impact participants. With the support of laser cutting and 3D printing technology, the details of the pieces are well-achieved. This collection is made with Leather, organza and mesh as the main fabric. The fabric and materials are chosen by their touch and characteristics to represent the feelings of experiencing gender inequality. As a designer and artist, I seek my inspiration from everyday life and life experiences that have deep meanings. Design and craftsmanship are my method of storytelling. Understanding not everyone can be connected, but art always brings people together in its own way.
